State-Level Achievement plan comes into effect under which students’ subject-wise performance will be assessed on state-level to design a centralised method to improve education standard

After the decision of holding simultaneous examination in the primary and middle schools was successfully executed across the State, Department of School Education (DSE), Chhattisgarh, has come up with the idea of State-Level Achievement (SLA) programme under which students’ subject-wise performance will be assessed on State-level. Subsequently, strict measures would be taken to improve their performance. Students from class I to VIII will be assessed under the new system, said Department of School Education Principal Secretary Gaurav Dwivedi in an order to the Director, Directorate of Public Instructions, Managing Director, Samagra Shiskha, Director, State Council of Education Research and Training (SCERT), and the District Education Officers (DEOs) of the State.

An important meeting on the State-level achievement was held recently. According to official sources, results of the class promotion examination (class I to VIII) would be announced on April 30 following which an assessment report would be prepared and necessary steps would be taken to improve the standard of education in the primary and middle school across the State. It is to be mentioned, conducting examinations and preparing question papers for the same for primary and middle schools had been in the hands of the DEOs of the respective districts and there was no proper method to assess students’ performance. It was difficult to chalk out strategies to get rid of problems like poor performance of students. The assessment was being done by the schools itself and therefore it was a difficult task to devise a foolproof method to gather the data and prepare a plan, said the official. Now, a centralised plan has been designed and hopefully it will work in a greater way, said the official.

It is worthwhile to mention, as many as 2 crore answer sheets of students appeared for examinations (Class I to VIII) in the state would be evaluated and therefore the Principal Secretary has directed to engage adequate teachers for the evaluation. On the basis of this evaluation, education scheme for students will be prepared, said Principal Secretary. The Principal Secretary directed the evaluators to be very careful during the evaluation. Learning outcomes would be prepared on the basis of every answer sheets and every answer asked. If state level achievement system remains successful, it will pave the way to implement Continuous and Compressive Evaluation and Summative assessment which can be implemented in the schools.
