DG Mukesh Gupta shows up for deposition to EOW

Suspended Director General (DG) Mukesh Gupta on Thursday gave deposition to Economic Offence Wing (EOW) in the phone tapping case. EOW had sent him notices for deposition in two separate cases following an order issued by the High Court.
 
Gupta came to the EOW after receiving the notices. Sources informed, DG Gupta had object the presence of Supervisory Officer, but EOW Officials unequivocally told him that the statement will be recorded in the presence of Supervisory Officer. The questions, however, will be asked by the investigative officer. Reportedly Gupta told the investigative officer Inspector RK Dubey that he was handling EOW operations before being actually posted in the Department.
 
Several questions on phone tapping, interception were asked with copies of interception orders issued by him. Besides, Gupta was asked how he appointed Rekha Nair as system administration. The EOW officials also quizzed Gupta concerning the PDS Scam, to which he told the complete information about the case can be sought from suspended Superintendent of Police (SP) Rajnesh Singh. Since, it was Rajnesh Singh who had probed the PDS Scam. Talking to the media, Gupta stated that the noticed served to him was for today, so he had asked the investigative officers to ask whatever they wanted to today only. The EOW officials, however, seconded him, saying DGP Gupta will be called up for inquisition whenever they need.
