NDRF Academy to become functional from 2020: DG

Bhoomipujan will take place in June “The bhoomipujan of upcoming National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) Academy will take place in the month of June and it starts working from next year,” disclosed S N Pradhan, Director General, NDRF here on Thursday. Pradhan was in the city on a visit of NDRF Academy in Civil Lines and the proposed land at Suradevi in Kamptee. The new Academy campus will come up in 153 acre of land and it will offer National and International level courses in the field of Disaster Management to various stakeholders from the country and also for the South Asia.

“Increasing natural and manmade disaster become a challenge for governments, therefore proper disaster management training to stakeholders is needed of the hour and this Academy will provide the same,” said Pradhan during a press conference held at NDRF Academy campus on Thursday. The Academy will provide training for fire and emergency services, disaster management, Nuclear Biological and Chemical NBC threat control etc.
 
The Academy will provide training to NDRF, SDRF, Fire Departments, Police, PSUs and other companies who require such training. A disaster village will be constructed inside the Academy where the trainees can get a look of mock situation of flooded village. “Knowledge of disaster management is need of the hour and every individual of the country should know it to minimise losses. NDRF has trained more than 12 lakh citizen till date however more efforts needed for proper management,” said Pradhan. DG further said that students should know how to respond on a disaster situation. For this, proper disaster management subject is needed in schools syllabus. Pradhan also talked about working and the future plans of NDRF to connect them with every part of the country. Technology upgradation is a major concern for NDRF to improve their working.
 
“We are working to get Real Time Visual of disaster which will help us act more accurately. NDRF will get a real time centralised control room in Delhi to visualise every disaster situation in any corner of the country under the single roof,” stated Pradhan. He also said that NDRF is working on an high frequency equipment that will help them to communicate with their volunteers any adverse situation and weather. NDRF has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) to develop Ready to Eat Food for volunteers at the time of disaster.
