   Date :27-Apr-2019

Considering the grim water situation, Water Resources Department (WRD) will make a request to the State Government to allow it touse dead storage in Totladoh reservoir of Pench irrigation project. Dr Sanjeev Kumar, Divisional Commissioner, directed WRD officials to make the request.

Dr Sanjeev Kumar chaired a meeting regarding water scarcity combat plan for Nagpur city, held at Divisional Commissionerate here on Friday. Ashwin Mudgal,

District Collector; AbhijitBangar, Municipal Commissioner; J G Gawali, Superintending Engineer of WRD; K N K Rao, Deputy Commissioner, and other officers were present prominently in the meeting.

Bangar apprised the Divisional Commissioner that Nagpur city might face shortage of 25 MM3 to 30 MM3 if the present water use continues till June 30. In the last days of June, the city might face water scarcity. To bridge the gap between water demand and supply, Dr Sanjeev Kumar said after taking stock of the situation, WRD should request the Government to allow it to make available water from dead storage of Totladoh reservoir.

At present, Khindsi reservoir has 9.90 MM3 water. The town of Ramtek gets its water supply from Khindsi. Besides, every year, the people demand water to be released from Pench project’s left bank canal into river Sur to ensure water supply to town of Mohadi. Dr Sanjeev Kumar asked WRD to explore if adequate water was available for Mohadi. Also, he asked WRD to continue with water supply to Koradi and Khaparkheda thermal power stations till June 30. After that, appropriate decision will be taken in this regard after reviewing the situation, he added.
