Technical glitch in AI server; 160 passengers get stuck at city airport

As the Air India server suffered a breakdown all over the country, Nagpur’s Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport, too, experienced its heat on Saturday. Several flights were affected because of which over 160 air passengers got stranded at the airport. The flight that takes off for Delhi at 8.25 am was delayed by seven hours and took off at 3.20 pm.
 
This flight takes off from Raipur and reaches Nagpur at 8.10 am. But due to the technical snag in the AI server, it landed at Nagpur airport at 2.25 pm. Similarly, Air India flight that takes off for Mumbai at 7.55 am had to wait for five hours and it left for Mumbai at 1.13 pm. The flight reaches Nagpur at 7.20 am from Mumbai but it reached at 12 noon. Both aircraft were supposed to carry 160 passengers from Nagpur. Since the server went down the flights got delayed. According to some passengers they were not informed either by Air India officials or the airport operators. There were passengers supposed to attend some meetings decided earlier. Some had connecting flights for the other destinations. The delay has not only disturbed their schedule but they also felt mental trauma.
 
SITA technology runs the passenger services of Air India. It is said that system was closed for an hour between 3.30 am and and 4.30 am for maintaintainence purpose but the server remained down till 8.45 am. This has also affected the issuance of boarding passes by the airlines. The Air India flight that takes off at 8.30 pm from Mumbai and reaches at 9.15 pm will also get delayed. According to Air India sources the flight may get delayed by 6 hours and expected to take off from Nagpur at 4 in the morning for Mumbai.
