High velocity wind, thundershowers change weather

The western disturbance active in northern India caused blowing of high velocity wind and thundershowers occurred on Saturday noon, which suddenly changed the weather. However, the residents of city could not get respite from severe hot weather as both the maximum and minimum temperature remained above normal on Saturday. Western wind, blowing with speed of 4 km per hour, has not only kept the temperature higher, but also brought thundershowers.
 
The lanes and roads of city wore deserted look as fewer people barring those celebrating the Hindu New Year, Navratri came out of their homes during day. Most of the devotees had arrived in the temples and ashrams of city early in the morning to celebrate the occasion in view of severe hot weather. The maximum temperature recorded on Saturday was 40.1 degrees Celsius, which is 2 degrees above normal maximum temperature. Whereas, the maximum temperature recorded in previous year on the same day was 40 degrees Celsius.
 
As the clouds kept hovering over the sky at night, the minimum temperature increased. The people are still using coolers, air conditioner at night due to higher temperature. The minimum temperature recorded on Saturday also remained above the normal minimum temperature. The minimum temperature recorded on Saturday was 25.7 degrees Celsius, which is 5 degrees Celsius above normal minimum temperature. Whereas minimum temperature recorded in previous year on the same day was 22. 6 degrees Celsius. The relative humidity, recorded in the morning, was 25 percent, which gradually came down to 16 percent by the evening.
 
The days have become longer and blazing direct sunrays are creating trouble for people. The sunset was registered at 6.28 pm, while sunrise was recorded at 5.57 am. In the beginning, it appeared as if it would be nice sunny day. The clouds present on the sky at night had disappeared. However, the high velocity wind started blowing by noon and drizzling occurred at isolated areas of Jabalpur district, which suddenly changed the weather. The trees in some areas of city were uprooted and branches of some trees fell down on land due to blowing of high velocity wind. A total 6.1 mm rainfall had occurred on Saturday, while 1.7 mm rainfall had occurred on the same day in previous year. Maximum temperature recorded in Madhya Pradesh was 45 degrees Celsius recorded in Khargone. According to the weather forecast of the Meteorological Department, rain and thunder showers are likely to occur at isolated places of division in next 24 hours.
