Voluntary bodies crucial for voting by Divyangs: DEO Bhardwaj

The co-operation of voluntary organisations is essential to ensure hundred percent participation of Divyang voters in voting during Lok Sabha election. Aforesaid views were expressed by District Election Officer and Collector Chhavi Bhardwaj while addressing a workshop of office-bearers of disabled welfare and social service organisations. Speaking on the occasion, she said that, voluntary organisations will have to play important role in creating awareness amongst the voters under the Systematic Voters’ Education for Electoral Percentage (SVEEP).
 
According to instructions of Election Commission of India, to persuade more and more Divyang voters to participate in polling, we should work together. Appreciating the role of voluntary organisations in the campaign during Assembly elections, she said that, same kind of support is required now to create awareness. She also provided information about the facilities being provided to the Divyang voters at polling centres. She said that, Election Commission of India has also instructed to provide wheel chairs to Divyangs at polling centres and also, to provide vehicle facility to take them to polling booth from their homes.
 
The Election Commission has also instructed to provide the facility of voting without waiting in long queues to the Divyang voters. Divyang voters riding the wheelchairs or tricycles would be able to arrive at voting compartment directly. Collector said that, process of registration of names of Divyang voters to provide them wheelchair facilities at poling centres, is being done on toll free number 1950 of District Election Office so that Divyangs or their friends would be able to get the tricycle booked according to suitable time for them. Besides, such organisations as are willing to provide the tricycle facility to Divyang voters, can also book it on PWD app of Election Commission of India.
 
The Collector Chhavi Bhardwaj also felicitated the Divyang employees, who were deployed at Sugam polling centres by presenting the felicitation letters. The Divyang voters also thanked Collector for having confidence in them for getting Assembly election conducted. Divyang voters also promised her that they are ready to shoulder the responsibility of getting Lok Sabha election conducted at Sugam booths. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jila Panchayat Rajni Singh, Joint Director Social Justice Ashish Dixit, Nodal Officer Disabled Dr Ram Naresh Patel and others were also present on the occasion.
