Negligence on part of the Chhattisgarh Veterinary Department resulted in the tragic death of a healthy camel brought to the State Veterinary Hospital Pandri after rescuing from Kumhari. Informing about the entire incident, People for Animal’s Kasturi Ballal stated that the camel was abandoned by vagabonds near a stop-dam on river Kumhari one month ago.

They contacted Joint Director of Medical Department over the issue, who initially tried to shrug off the case by giving excuse of unavailability of driver, but later provided the rescue vehicle under pressure by people. Thereafter, camel was transported to State Veterinary Hospital at 3:45 on Monday. Here, Rescue team of the Joint Director Medical Department left the camel on rescue vehicle and later the Joint Director called up Kasturi Ballal to inform that Veterinarian Doctors don’t want to admit the camel. Even when the issue was brought to cognizance of the Director Veterinary Services, camel was left on the vehicle. An atrocious site awaited Kasturi as she reached the hospital in the evening. Camel was still tied to the vehicle and trying to release himself from the belts.

The over-exertion had exhausted the animal. His neck was also strangled into the belts used to tie him up. There was still some life left in the poor creature, but still no hospital employee came to take the camel off from the vehicle till he died after a prolonged suffering. Aggrieved Kasturi Ballal has demanded immediate suspension of the concerned veterinarian doctors from the service and institution of a high level probe.
