Several shops were reduced to ashes as a transformer caught fire due to short circuit on the busy road in Maharana Pratap Nagar. The short circuit in trasformer led to a major fire near Miracles Children Hospital on Tuesday afternoon. The fire brigades of Bhopal Municipal Corporation reached the spot. The fire personnel said that a short circuit might have caused the fire. The fire which broke out around 2:30 pm engulfed as many as seven nearby shops, including a Sanchi Parlour.

It took two hours for the fire fighters to douse the inferno. Eye witnesses said that the fire broke out due to short circuit in the power transformer near the children hospital and it quickly spread to the shops around. The locals said the panic set in the whole area due to the incident, “However, the fire brigade arrived on time and doused the fire.” The incident occurred after a short circuit in a transformer located near Chittod Complex at MP Nagar Zone 1 in the afternoon.

The fire tenders from the four fire stations, Fatehgarh, Mata Mandir, Pul Bogda and one from the Mantralaya were pressed into the relief work. But to worsen the situation further the MPEB failed to suspend power supply even after being informed that also delayed the relief work. Fortunately, there were no casualties reported. According to a fireman Yasir, the power supply was still not suspended and that they had to use foam to douse the flames. Yasir said the shops near it were totally damaged but we prevented it from spreading elsewhere. Anil Kumar Khatri, Chief General Manager of the MPEB, on the other hand says that the fire did not break out due to transformer but it was because of some fault in the Sanchi Parlour near it. He also said that the transformers will only be replaced if the MPEB feels it is needed there.Though, this was an incident which had no casualties reported but there were a string of fire incidents recently at Marwadi Road where there was one casualty and in Govindpura Industrial Area of State capital.
