Youth held for impersonating as Assistant Sub-Inspector

A 28-year-old youth impersonating as police officer was arrested from a private bank located in the city’s posh Anupam Nagar locality under Saraswati Nagar police station. While undertaking routine checking at a private bank located near Anupam Garden on Monday, a police team arrested Avon Bairagi (28), hailing from Mahasamund district, impersonating as an Assistant Sub- Inspector (ASI), police said. “During the course of investigation, it was learnt by investigators that with the intention to impress his girlfriend, the 28-year-old unemployed youth impersonated as police officer.
 
However, investigation is ongoing on several angles to ascertain the date of Avon’s arrival in Raipur, number of days he is moving in the city by wearing police uniform, motive of coming to the city and whether he has cheated anyone,” said police sources. Police have started investigation to find out the source from where the accused has procured police uniform, informed police sources.
 
An offence against the accused was registered with Saraswati Nagar police station under Section 170 of Indian Penal Code (IPC), which amounting to personating a public servant, police said, adding that further investigation in the case is underway.
