Palasagon village in the core area of Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve is being relocated outside fully by May 31. At present 75 per cent village has been relocated to Salori near Warora. The work of shifting remaining families would be completed by May-end. This was disclosed by N S Ladkat, Deputy Director, TATR (Core), Chandrapur, while talking to ‘The Hitavada’ on Thursday. He said that around 125 families shifted their house-hold materials after getting mobilisation fund of Rs one lakh each while the work of shifting by remaining families is being done.

The villagers have now come in main stream with communication facility as the new site is situated near Nagpur-Chimur and Nagpur-Chandrapur Highways. The Forest Department has allotted 300 hectares of land to these villagers at Salori. The department has given around Rs 8.25 crore so far to these families, including fixed deposits in bank, as per the package of Rs 10 lakh per family. The shifted villagers have also started constructing their houses in 11 hectares at the new site while the administration has started providing amenities like water supply scheme, school, dispensary, water body, electric poles, internal roads, Gram Panchayat office etc., he pointed out. Ladkat said that the department was assessing lands of the villagers and it would settle the account in phases so that they would start undertaking agricultural operations after making improvements at the new site.

The department is now focusing attention on dismantling the structures at Palasgaon and providing basic amenties to villagers at Salori. He expressed confidence that all the families would be rehabilitated by May-end. Meanwhile, the department has taken up demolishing work in Palasgaon with the help of JCB in order to make it inviolate area in the interest of wild animals.

The field staff members had organised meetings in Palasgaon village previously in order to convince them about the facilities they would get after shifting from core area. The villagers had given their consent to shifting. It may be mentioned here that Forest Department first shifted Botezari village from the core of TATR in 2006 and then half of Kolsa village to Bhagwanpur. It then shifted Navegaon and Jamni villages. After Palasgaon, the department would focus attention on relocation of the last village - Rantalodi - in the core, Ladkat pointed out.
