HAVING witnessed a slump in the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) sector for some time, the appeal of the engineering exporters’ apex organisation to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to facilitate easy and cheaper loans to exporters deserves to be considered seriously. The MSME sector, after getting some set-back for some time now for various reasons, is trying to find its feet again.

In this situation paucity of finance should not become an impediment in its revival. Revival of the MSME sector is very important from the point of view of job creation and its contribution to growth of GDP. Small, medium and tiny sectors are the real creators of job opportunities, more than highly mechanised manufacturing sector.

Undeniably, the MSME’s share in the natios’s exports is significant. Hence, every effort and help should be offered to it so that it remains competitive in the global market place. Cheaper and timely finance to small engineering units would make them viable and competitive.
