JMC removes illegal motorbike-repairing shops hindering traffic

Acting tough against mechanics who operate motorbike-repairing shops along main roads, the anti-encroachment department of Jabalpur Municipal Corporation (JMC), on Friday conducted drive in many areas of the city and removed a number of illegal shops. The anti-encroachment squad also seized commodities from the mechanics and shifted them to mechanics' zones.
 
Senior officials informed that the High Court has directed the JMC to ensure mechanics must not operate illegal shops along main roads. Following the direction, the anti-encroachment department is conducting drive and removing mechanics who operate motorbike repairing shops along city streets and hinder traffic movement.
 
They said the squad, on Friday conducted drive in many areas of the city and removed over two dozens mechanics shops. The JMC employees conducted drive at Taiyawali Chowk, Income Tax square, Nagrath Chowk, Russell square, Railways fourth bridge and adjoining areas and removed motorbike repairing shops.
 
Senior officials informed that the squad removed nearly 25 motorbike repairing shops and seized articles, two bikes and kiosks. They said a number of people operate motorbike repairing shops along main roads. They not only obstruct traffic movement but also create uncleanliness. These mechanics encroach important streets of the city and operate illegal motorbike repairing shops. The illegal act obstructs traffic movement and cause inconvenience to citizens. Officials said the JMC had many a times appealed mechanics to remove temporary shops from main roads and help the Municipal Corporation in maintaining traffic arrangement.
 
The anti-encroachment department also conducted repeated drives on the aforementioned areas but mechanics again and again encroach main roads and create traffic jam. Officials said the JMC has developed a number of Mechanics Zones in different areas of the city for mechanics to operate their business freely and in respectful manner. But, they don't operate shop in the zones and encroach main roads. The High Court has asked the civic body to remove all illegal motorbike repairing shops mushrooming on city streets and shift them to Mechanics Zones. Therefore, the JMC is conducting drive and removing all illegal motorbike repairing shops from city streets. Amongst those conducted the drive were Narendra Singh Rajput, Narendra Kushwaha, Laxman Kori, Raju Raikwar, Bambam Tiwari, Manoj Patel, and others.
