OFAJ, Wadi likely to get 10 MLD water from Ambazari lake
   Date :11-May-2019

The residents of Ordnance Factory Ambajhari (OFAJ) and Wadi Municipal Council will likely to get water from Ambazari lake in a couple of days.

“Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran (MJP) is going to release 10 MLD water every day to OFAJ and Wadi area to cater the demand of potable water soon,” revealed a senior official of MJP on the condition of anonymity to The Hitavada.
According to senior official, MJP is waiting for a report of treated water of the lake which they will likely to get on Saturday. After getting the report, the department will start water supply on a regular basis.

OFAJ and Wadi area get water from Vena Reservoir but the critical water level of the dam raised the water scarcity in the areas. Keeping the situation in mind, OFAJ demanded Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) to supply water from Ambazari lake.

While, Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) has prosecuted OFAJ and Wadi Municipal Council for releasing sewage water in the same lake from where they will now get water for regular use.
“OFAJ has their own Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) but they release some untreated water in Ambazari lake. MPCB took legal action against them for polluting the water-body,” said Rahul Wankhede, Regional Officer, MPCB.
He further said that the water quality was measured in A, B, C and D categories. ‘A’ category was the best potable water while the quality of Ambazari’s water comes under ‘C’ grade which required proper treatment before use.

Due to lack of proper desilting of Vena Reservoir for the last many decades, the water crisis has increased in the
locality since the beginning of summer. Wadi Municipal Council is constructing four Elevated Service Reservoirs in the locality to cater the water demand of Navneet Nagar, Ambedkar Nagar, Dawlameti and other societies of Wadi area. However, the construction is still going on. Lack of proper storage and no desilting of Vena resulted in waterscarcity in Wadi. On the other hand, OFAJ is using their own sewage water but not for drinking purpose. Hence, the residents of OFAJ Estate are also facing severe water crisis this year.

Wadi Municipal Council is providing water to the residents through 70 water tankers and they are getting tap water once in a week.
