   Date :11-May-2019

Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) will also cover a 5 km stretch outside the city under its pre-monsoon river cleaningdrive, said Abhijit Bangar, Municipal Commissioner. He was addressing the officials in a meeting held on Friday.

In the meeting, Bangar took stock of the implementation of pre-monsoon river cleaning drive. The drive started from May 5 will continue till June 5. Under the drive, three rivers passing through the city -- Nag, Pili, and Pora -- will be cleaned. The cleaning drive has started in all 10 zones in the city. Excavators and necessary manpower have been pressed into work.

Nagpur Improvement Trust has taken the responsibility to clean most part of Pili river. Besides, the cleaning of nullahs has started. Last year, waterlogging on Wardha Road had caused great inconvenience to people. To avoid such an incident, Nagpur Metro should clean the nullahs near Metro route, Bangar said. He asked Public Works Department to clean the nullahs and drains along the Ring Road. He sought daily progress reports from the officials concerned, regarding implementation of the drive. Also, he appealed to the people to participate in the drive in big numbers.

Ram Joshi and Aziz Sheikh, Additional Municipal Commissioners; Manoj Talewar, Superintending Engineer; Dr Pradeep Dasarwar; Sunil Kamble, Health Officer (Sanitation); Moti Kukreja, Satish Neral, Ameen Akhtar, Rajendra Rahate, Executive Engineers; and others attended the meeting.
