Irked over several complaints regarding cleanliness at the railway stations and in running trains, Bhopal Railway Division has now initiated ‘Selfie on Duty’ assignment for the housekeeping staff. So, don’t get surprised when you spot any housekeeping staff at railway station or in running trains taking selfie with the mess in the coach. Taking selfie on duty has become a part of profession for the housekeeping staff under Bhopal Railway. This provision has been introduced specially for the premier trains like Shatabdi Express, Bhopal Express, Bhopal-Pratapgarh, Shaan-E-Bhopal Express, Amarkantak, Tamil Nadu Express and other few premier trains.

“Railways is taking cleanliness in trains and platforms on priority basis. Most of housekeeping staff in long distance trains belongs to out-sourcing so it is tough to keep an eye on everyone. Now, it has been decided to submit their selfie with the mess, cleanliness and passengers to prove the work,” said IA Siddique, Public Relations Officer (PRO) Bhopal Railway Division. With the help of selfies, housekeeping staff will be submitting their pictures as proof of the work at control room to prove that they have cleaned the mess properly. Sometimes cleaning staff will also take selfie with the passengers.

Railway officials said that several complaints are being reported from trains and platforms for the cleanliness issues. They said there is no provision to keep an eye on on-board out-sourcing employees of housekeeping. In most of long distance trains, outsource housekeeping staff get deployed for the cleaning duty. Finding solution of the issue, Railways has asked housekeeping to take picture of the coach before starting their work and then after cleaning the coach, take a selfie and send it to the agency concerned. They are also allowed to send their selfie with the passengers along with the PNR number and contact of the passenger. Housekeeping staff has been also asked to send their selfie after completing the duty.
