Some writer has said, like human being, every book has its own fate. The sayings came true in case of Prabha Mehta’s book ‘Ravi Rashmiyaan’. The writer gave birth to the idea of the book in 1980, while she was balancing her professional and personal life. After her retirement, Mehta brought the book into existence in 2012. Still after facing some highs and lows, today, after 35 years, the book achieved its fame by receiving ‘Vinoba Bhave Ramchandra Puraskar’.

It was now after the award ceremony, the book received its release programme on Saturday at Shrimant Baburao Dhanwate Hall, Rashtrabhasha Sankul, Shankar Nagar. Yashwantrao Chavan Pratishthan Vibhagiya Kendra had organised the programme so that more people should be aware about the book, its history and the contents of the book. Dr Pramod Sharma, Dean, Humanities Faculty, Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) was the main guest. Girish Gandhi, President of Yashwantrao Chavhan Pratishthan Vibhagiya Kendra, presided over the programme. Senior journalist S N Vinod, writer Prabha Mehta, her guide Nalini Kanetkar and others were present.

The book ‘Ravi Rashmiyaan’, is based upon Vidarbha’s women’s contribution in political and social development of Nagpur. “Language has its own culture. Words has its own value. Translation of regional language should be done with correct usage of words. Wrong words can convey wrong message among the people, said Dr Pramod Sharma. He appreciated Mehta for writing the book and helping future generation to know them about the women’s contribution in Nagpur’s political and social development. Mehta, who hails from Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh, is a retired professor. She has written books, ‘Kanyavati Bhavah, ‘Swant; Sukhay’.

She is an active member of Vidarbha Hindi Sahitya Sammelan and other organisations. Appreciating Mehta’s dedication for writing the book after retirement, Girish Gandhi said, “People who are working for social and political field can never get retired. Prabha Mehta has shown that her devotion to bring social changes for women through her book has led her to write the book even after her retirement.” The book contains stories of women including Anusayabai Kale, Kamlabai Hospet, Kusum Sharma and others, taking active part in national movement.
