Five injured as car hits three motorcycles at Laxmi Nagar Sq

Passersby at Laxmi Nagar Square, on late Friday night, witnessed horror on the road when a drunken man lost control over the wheel of his speeding car and knocked down three motorcycles leaving four persons injured seriously. Later, the car rammed into a road divider, also injuring the driver seriously. According to information, the Maruti Swift car (MH-31/DV-7856) first hit a motorcycle in front of Hotel Ashoka on Laxmi Nagar Main Road (West High Court Road) and later hit two more running motorcycles at Laxmi Nagar Square before crashing into a road divider at a great speed.
 
API Datta Ingale of Bajaj Nagar Police Station informed the mediapersons that the car driver, identified as P K Ravindra Rao (55), a resident of Plot No. 27/3, Ujjwal Nagar, Somalwada, was allegedly driving the car under the influence of liquor. Rao was coming from RPTS side and hit a motorcycle in front of Hotel Ashok injuring both rider and pillion identified as Jayesh Tejram Uike (22) and Ishan Qureshi (21), both residents of Bhandara. Later, he sped away towards Laxmi Nagar Square. In the process the car hit two more motorcyclists at the square and crashed against a road divider.
 
Motorcyclists Santosh Agrawal (30) and Mahadev Ayyar (45) fell down and sustained injuries. A large number of passers-by rushed to the both spots and informed police. Bajaj Nagar police reached the spot and sent the injured persons to a hospital. API Ingale said that Rao was stuck in the car as it was badly mangled in the accidents. He was rescued from the vehicle and rushed to a hospital by the passersby. Rao told police that he was Professor at a reputed college in city.
 
The front side of his car was crushed with it’s left front tyre flatned after the vehicle crashed into the road divider, police said. Injured Jayesh Uikey is pursuing Bachelor of Architecture (BArch.) degree from a Pune-based college while Ishan Qureshi is a student of Anjuman College of Engineering. They are living in a rented accommodation at Trimurti Nagar. The duo was heading towards Mominpura for dinner when the accident occurred, police said. Police booked P K Ravindra Rao under Sections 279, 337 of the IPC read with Sections 184 and 185 of the Motor Vehicle Act.
