Woman, daughter-in-law sustain burns as auto-rickshaw catches fire

A WOMAN and her daughter-in-law suffered burn injuries when the auto-rickshaw they were travelling in caught fire at Ganesh Tower Square near Marartoli turning on Amravati Road on Saturday afternoon. Injured women Rama Hiralal Gaur and her daughter-in-law Bharati Ritesh Gaur were rushed to Sengupta Multi-Speciality Hospital at Ravi Nagar Square. Rama Gaur’s grandson, three other passengers and auto-rickshaw driver escaped unhurt.
 
According to Fire & Emergency Services Department of Nagpur Municipal Corporation, Rohit Deshmukh, driver of auto-rickshaw (MH-49/EM-3137) carrying six passengers in his vehicle from Wadi, was heading towards Ravi Nagar Square around 12.10 pm. Suddenly, the running auto-rickshaw caught fire at Ganesh Tower Square. Rohit lost control of his auto-rickshaw and it overturned. Onlookers and passersby rushed to rescue the passengers. They extricated the passengers from the burning vehicle.
 
They rushed Rama Gaur and Bharati Gaur to Sengupta Multi-Speciality Hospital. Before the firefighters could reach the spot, the auto-rickshaw was completely gutted. Staff from Ambazari Police Station and Traffic Branch also arrived at the spot. A water tender was pressed into service and firefighters doused the flames immediately. Fire Brigade personnel told ‘The Hitavada’ the cause behind the fire could not be ascertained so far. Ambazari Police are investigating the incident.
