Retired Judge reviews cases against Scheduled Tribes in Naxal-affected region

The Supreme Court retired Justice AK Patnaik reviewed the cases against the Scheduled Tribe (ST) people in Naxal-affected areas in New Circuit House on Monday. Justice Patnaik chaired the committee constituted of senior officials of concerned departments for reviewing the cases. Officials as Advocate General Kanak Tiwari, Director General of Police DM Awasthi, DG Jail/SIB Naxal Ops Girdhari Nayak, Home Secretary Arun Dev Gautam, Secretary SC/ST Department DD Singh, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Naxa Ops/SIB P Sundarraj and DIG CID Sanjeev Shukla, and DIG Jail KK Gupta had attended the meeting.
 
The officials scrutinised the cases against ST people registered under various provisions of the Indian Penal Laws and special provisions in districts of Kanker, Kondagaon, Narainpur, Bastar, Sukma, Dantewada, Bijapur and Rajnandgaon.
 
They also analysed the status of Court proceedings in these cases. After over viewing and deliberating the cases, Committee decided to take time-bound justifiable action in the favour of ST people on the merits of each case. Besides, decisions to initiate necessary action through the DIG P Sundarraj in cases related to Naxal-related cases, Sanjeev Shukla in cases related to Indian Penal Laws and special provisions, Secretary/Commissioner in Excise related cases in coordination with the Secretary of SC/ST Department.
