Attack on union leader: BSP contractor, five others held

Attack was not to kill the victim union leader but threaten him as he was stabbed with paper cutters 
 
SIX including a BSP contractor and a supervisor were arrested for involvement in the armed attack on a senior leader from BSP trade union (CITU) in Bhilai a week ago. The contract criminals carried out the armed attack which was meant to threaten the victim trade union leader Yogesh Soni. The gory crime could be termed as the outcome of the conflict informed Prakhar Pandey, Superintendent of Police, Durg. He was addressing the media persons at Police Control Room, Bhilai on Wednesday.
 
While citing fact finding investigation in the gory crime, SP, Prakhar Pandey categorically stated that the armed attack was not for eliminating the trade union leader but to threaten him for not pursuing the issues of contract workers. Earlier, the victim trade union leader was also assured of monetary favour. While investigating into the heinous offence with due commitment, the specially constituted police team managed to retrieve CCTV grabs from the possible track of unidentified assailants and succeeded in laying hands on six of them including a BSP contractor and a supervisor.
 
However one other accused is still at large but he will be soon behind bars. The attack was carried out by two, but others were keeping track of the victim and informing them about his location. The six accused arrested by police were identified as Sudhanshu Khandelwal (BSP contractor and Proprietor, Sudhanshu Brothers), a resident of Lotus Apartment, Talpuri International Colony, Bhilai; Govind Sahu (Supervisor), a resident of Camp-1, Bhilai; R Samuel, a resident of Hospital Sector, Bhilai; Chikku Hiyal, a resident of Sector-9, Bhilai and R Nagarjun alias Akki, a resident of Sector-6, Bhilai. During interrogation, the accused named the absconding accused as K Benjamin.
 
SP Pandey told media that Sudhanshu Khandelwal, the BSP contractor, identified as prime accused hired five including two hardcore criminals who carried out attack on the victim only to threaten him as the victim was stabbed with paper cutter. Earlier, the victim trade union leader was also threatened of dire consequences by the contractor and his supervisor. While investigating into all such previous developments and setting the line of investigation the police finally cracked the case. In this connection the police also seized a four-wheeler and a motorbike, used by the accused.
