Reacting on attack during roadshow of BJP National President Amit Shah in West Bengal on Tuesday, senior BJP leader and ex-Minister Umashankar Gupta said that Mamta Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) is appalled due to its impending defeat and hence it is trying to crush democracy. Interacting with media at party office in State capital, Umashankar Gupta said that so far six phases of Lok Sabha elections have been completed in the country.

It is a matter of surprise that in every phase of election, violence took only in West Bengal! Why elections are being held peacefully in other states though BJP is in battlefield there also? He alleged that during panchayat elections, hooligans of TMC killed more than 60 BJP workers. He also added that attitude of the Election Commission regarding West Bengal is disappointing. In other states, hooligans are being put behind bars and in West Bengal, hooligans are being left free after taking bond from them. He added that Mamta Banerjee intimidates BJP workers from public platform and talks of revenge but it is unfortunate that the Election Commission is a mute spectator.

Talking about desecration of Ishwarchand Vidyasagar’s statue during the hooliganism, he told that it has been damaged by TMC workers to gain sympathy. He claimed that hooliganism in West Bengal was an attempt to kill Amit Shah. Hence, attack during Amit Shah’s rally should be probed by judge of the Apex Court.
