Truck crushes sister-duo dead in Pardi

The unidentified driver of the ‘killer’ truck fled the spot after the accident 
 
A SPEEDING truck crushed two sisters to death at Pardi on Bhandara Road in Kalamna area on Wednesday morning. The errant truck driver ran away leaving his vehicle at the spot after the tragedy. The deceased, Laxmi Ramshankar Shahu (21) and her sister Aachal (19) were residents of Plot No. 196, Bidgaon Road, near Jai Durga Shankar Kirana Stores. Laxmi and Aachal were returning home on a Honda Activa (MH-49/AZ-9331) after purchasing milk from Pardi Square around 7 am.
 
Near Hanuman Mandir, Pardi, a speeding truck (MH-40/AK-1008) coming towards the city from Bhandara direction hit their scooterette. Laxmi and Aachal fell off the scooterette and came under the wheels of the truck. The two sisters were killed instantaneously. The truck driver fled the spot fearing public violence. A huge crowd of residents and passers-by gathered at the spot. Vehicular traffic on the busy Bhandara Road came to a grinding halt. Bodies of the two sisters remained at the spot till arrival of the staff from Kalamna Police Station.
 
The deceased’s parents, who kept waiting for Laxmi and Aachal came to know that an accident occurred near Hanuman Temple. After sometime, some residents of the locality informed them that Laxmi and Achal met with an accident. They and their neighbours rushed to Pardi Square. Before they reach the spot, cops had shifted the bodies to Mayo Hospital for post-mortem.
 
After recording the statement of Ramkrishna Shriram Shahu (48), father of the deceased sisters, Kalamna Police registered an offence under Sections 279, 304(A) of the Indian Penal Code, read with Sections 134 and 177 of Motor Vehicle Act, against the trucker. Cops seized the ‘killer’ truck and launched a search for its driver.
