Tur price crosses MSP of Rs 5,675 per quintal

Tur prices in the wholesale market for the first time have crossed MSP of Rs 5,000 per quintal. Farmers hitherto were dissapointed with the low prices of tur. After the notification from Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) under the Ministry of Commerce, the prices of tur have increased in the wholesale market. Pratap Motwani, Secretary The Nagpur Grains and Seeds Merchant Association said,“It is very rare occasion that farmers are getting price above the MSP. The prices have crossed MSP of Rs 5,675.” Taking advantage of the situation, more than 6,000 applications for import of tur are pending with the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT).
 
The applications will be sorted out in the first week of June. “It clearly indicates that the decision on import on tur will be taken only in the month of July,” Motwani said. Stockists have purchased tur in large quantity and are keeping in godowns. It has created a shortage of tur in the market resulting into inflation of tur. The imported tur at the port is quoted at Rs 5,500. Dall millers are facing the shortage. Stockists or wholesalers are holding the tur in inticipation that the prices will be increased in the coming days. In Mumbai Lemon tur is sold at Rs 5,450 per quntail. In mandis of Maharashtra, the demand for tur has increased as their is scarcity of supply.
 
At Akola mandi the prices of tur were in the range of Rs 5,850 to Rs 6,100 per quintal. In Nagpur, thep prices were between 6,100 to Rs 6,110, in Latur, it were hovering between Rs 5,950 and 6,030 per quintal. The minimum support price (MSP) of tur is Rs 5,675. For the first time, is has crossed the price of wholesale market. In the wholesale market, the prices of tur dal new sortex were in the range of Rs 8,400 and Rs 8,500, non sortes fatka-- Rs 8,100 and Rs 8,200. Sartex fod between Rs 7,800 and Rs 8,000, sortex fod- Rs 7,500 and Rs 7,700. Tur dal prices have increased in the wholesale market and will move up in coming days, sources said.
