Lot of complaints made by teaching and non-teaching employees are pending for the last six months as Grievance committee constituted by Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) for the redressal of complaints has become non-functional. This has led to piling up the complaints of the staff.

Nagpur University Teachers Association (NUTA) in a letter sent to Vice-Chancellor of RTMNU brought to his notice the status of the grievance committee. Dr Anil Dhage, former Secretary of NUTA pointed out, “The university has constituted the Grievance Committee as required under section 79 (1) of the Maharashtra Public Universities Act, 2016 to deal with all types of grievances of teachers and other employees of the university, affiliated and autonomous colleges, and recognized institutions and to hear, settle and decide the grievances, as far as may be practicable, within three months from the date of filing of the complaint. The constitution of the Grievance Committee has been notified by the university vide notification dated September 4, 2017.”

Dr Dhage in the letter brought to the notice of Vice-Chancellor, “Grievance Committee in the university has not been functional for the last at least 6 months. It is learnt that one of the reasons for the non-functioning of the Grievance Committee is that the post of chairman of the Grievance Committee fell vacant due to sad demise of the incumbent Chairman Justice Prabhu P. Patil and new Chairman has not yet been nominated in his place. As a result of this, there has been a huge pendency of the appeals filed by the aggrieved teachers and members of the non-teaching staff awaiting disposal.”

Dr Dhage appealed Vice-Chancellor to immediately nominate the Chairman of the Grievance Committee so that the functioning of the Committee is resumed at the earliest and the grievances are settled within reasonable time as contemplated by the Act.
