Habitual thief caught in checking drive

Awadhpuri police on Saturday claimed to have arrested a habitual thief from Awadhpuri area during vehicle checking and recovered valuables worth over Rs 3.20 lakh from his possession late in the evening on Friday. The accused will be taken on three-day police remand to ascertain his involvement in similar incidents in the past. Additional Superintendent of Police (Zone-2) Sanjay Sahu said that during a routine vehicle checking drive, accused was traced with his bike when after spotting police he tried to escape the vehicle checking but was chased down and caught.
 
The accused was identified as Puneet Vanshkaar (26), son of Ramkishan, a native of Hoshangabad district. In the initial investigation Puneet confessed that he had burgled the valuables from Awadhpuri area where he lives in a rented house. The police have recovered a motorbike bearing registration number MPM M5905, two gold chains, one LED TV set, three gold chains, two gold finger rings, one pair silver anklets and silver ware worth Rs 3.2 lakh from his possession in the investigation.
 
 
During the investigation police found that the accused is habitual criminal and has been booked for burglary by Hoshangabad police in the past. He was booked for four burglaries in Hoshangabad. SHO Awadhpuri Mangilal Bhati said that the accused hailed from Hoshangabad and used to live in a rented room in Shiva Sangam Nagar in Awadhpuri. The valuables recovered from his possession were burgled from Awadhpuri area and more recoveries are likely to be made in the further investigation, he added. Police said that other accomplices who have helped in the crimes and in the disposal of the burgled goods would be investigated. In the investigation, accused have not revealed any aides who have helped him in burglary.
