Roads with giant potholes and small pits hindering the ways of commuters have become a common sight these days at many areas in the State capital. The city roads are lying in deplorable condition and resulting in big, deep pits which is hindering the way of commuters and posing problem in their commutation. These pits are not only troubling commuters in various areas but also becoming cause of several road accidents. If these roads would be left in the same condition without being piled then the commuters are going to face major problem in the monsoon as these pits would be filled with rain water and become cause for many accidents.

Monsoon is the season which results in maximum number of accidents in comparison to other seasons. Several roads, including those in old city areas, are in pathetic condition, these days. Their condition seems to be worsened after the rain in coming days. City areas including Chhola, Berasia, Dwarka Nagar, Old City areas, MP Nagar Board Office Square, Bheem Nagar, Rahul Nagar, Ambedkar Nagar, Ayodhya Nagar, Hamidia, Alpana Tiraha, Durga Nagar, Shiv Nagar, Kalpana Nagar, Bhanpur, Karond, and others are witnessing various potholes on the roads. The damaged roads have not been piled yet at these areas. Dust and lubricants are worsening the problem and this makes road accidents inevitable. Poor lighting on roads is another critical issue. As a result, road safety naturally gets compromised. Some of the big pits on roads are also being used for dumping garbage which is polluting the environment. The pothole at Alpana Tiraha is filled with garbage and water which would be a invitation for mosquitoes and spread malaria and other diseases.

This is also affecting the ways of commuters and even pedestrians find strenuous to walk on road. As well as, accidents are also taking place due to the deplorable conditions of roads. Other than potholes, many road surfaces also have deteriorated due to lack of maintenance. Neelam, a student, says “The condition of roads at major areas is biggest cause of traffic jam and it would worsen in coming days of monsoon if not looked into by the authorities.

Even walking on the roads has become difficult for the pedestrians. I have to commute daily to college and coaching and these roads pits causes trouble.” Sapna Ahujha, CA, says “The deplorable and awful condition of the roads with big potholes is inviting many accidents. Many damaged roads are not asphalted and it hinders way of commuters. I am a two-wheeler rider and daily traffic jam due to pits at Alpana Tiraha and old city creates problem due to which I get late in reaching office
