Rakesh Puri is new Raipur Bar Assn’s treasurer; counting underway

The counting for posts including president, senior vice-president (female), junior vice-president, secretary, joint secretary (male) and joint secretary (female) of the Bar Association were in progress whose election was held on Friday. Since the counting of votes began late even at midnight the counting of votes was in progress. Meanwhile the Returning officer announced the winners of some of the posts whose counting was completed accordingly Senior lawyer Rakesh Puri has been elected as the Treasures of Raipur Bar Association. Puri defeated his nearest rival and incumbent treasurer B K Sinha by a margin of 295 votes.Neeraj Kumar Gupta has been declared elected as Cultural and Sports Secretary. Polling 496 votes, Gupta defeated his closest competitor Anand Kumar Netam by the margin of 137 votes.
It is to be mentioned here that three candidates were contesting for the post of treasurer while five for the post of Cultural and Sports Secretary. Suryakant Kashyap who polled 796 votes was elected as Library Secretary. As per information received, Jagdish Murty, Saurabh Mishra, Yogeshwar Sahu, Sheikh Gulam Wasim, Raj Kishore Sonkar, Ankit Kumar Mishra and Archana Tripathi have been elected as members of the working body. Notably, voting for 16 posts of Bar Association Raipur was held on Friday, which recorded turnout of around 1623 voters out of 2016 members. The election to the association was held amidst much fanfare and glitz.
The electioneering for the association election has been going on since last a couple of weeks and the candidates contesting for the various posts had expressed their desire to work for implementing various welfare schemes to the practicing lawyers including insurance policy and bringing Advocate Protection Act. The Bar Association of Raipur is considered a prestigious body and the outgoing president of the association Surendra Mahapatra had not contested the election this year. The contestant for the post of president are Asish Kumar Soni, Hitendra Tiwari, Lokesh Garg and Pradeep Kumar Giri. As per latest reports while the counting was in progress Asish Kumar Soni was leading. Riti Son Pipre,Ritu Bundel, Rupali Sharma, Shashi Sharma, Suchitra Bardhan are contesting for senior VP (f). All results will be announced by late night after the counting will be over, informed the returning officer Anand
