Following little arrangements, people of dozens of localities have been facing water scarcity

With soaring temperature water crises is also deepening fast in the city. Residents of many areas of the city have been facing water scarcity. The residents who live in hilly areas are in real trouble as neither they are getting potable water from taps nor the Jabalpur Municipal Corporation is providing water in adequate amount from tankers. Moreover, water sources like bore wells are getting arid and increasing their problem. Due to prohibition, the civic body is unable to ply water tankers and provide needed potable water to residents. Under such circumstances, people have to walk to distance areas to fetch water for their daily need.

With each passing day, water crises is taking serious turn in wards under Ranjhi, Garha and other areas. Water level of reservoirs like Pariyat tank, Khandari reservoir and even level of river Narmada is depleting fast. The water works department is falling short to provide adequate water to the denizens. Following ill arrangements people of dozens of localities have been facing water scarcity. Increasing water crises is clearly indicating that the residents would have to face tough time in coming days when the mercury would rise further. And if needed efforts are not made early the situation might turn serious. At present, the JMC is drawing maximum water from river Narmada.

As water level of Khandari and Pariyat tank is depleting fast, the civic body is taking limited water from the reservoir and keeping its reserve for though days. The city faces similar conditions every year but the JMC never takes pain to make use of other natural water resources like ponds, wells and step wells to cater water need of the city. The Municipal Corporation must take care of alternative water sources, which can be used to tackle water scarcity occur during peak summer. These water sources if maintained and recharged properly they can provide ample water to the denizens.

But the civic body never pay heed towards the same and not use these sources to meet water demand. The negligence is also providing dear to the existence of ponds and wells as the water sources have been misused. In earlier days, wells and stepwells were the major source of water for citizens. They used to fetch water from these resources for their daily need. But due to overlooking these sources are getting soiled and people have stopped taking water from ponds, stepwells. Now, daytime temperature is increasing gradually hence water crises would also intensify accordingly. Under such circumstances, the JMC must taken needed measures to tackle the situation and rid people of problem. At present, the civic body is waiting for end of election code of conduct so that it could ply water tankers, after getting due permission for the same, and supply water to areas facing water scarcity.
