Total power generation in the State on Monday was nearly around 16,776 MW while demand was 21,156 MW. To tide over the shortage, Maharashtra has drawn extra power from the Central pool. Its allocation was 3927 MW but it drew 4380 MW, that is 452 MW extra

State owned Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Limited (MSPGCL) has set a new record on generation front on Monday as it surpassed 10,000 MW mark for the first time. The milestone for the generation company is significant as the demand for power is on continuous rise. The new generation mark, 10034 MW was set at 1.28 pm on Monday and for MahaGenco, as it is commonly known, this is a historical feat. As per the bifurcation given by company, total production from thermal power plants was 7577 MW. From Wind generation it clocked 270 MW, while 2100 MW was generated from Hydro electricity project. The Solar project provided 119 MW, which is the lowest among the four categories from which MahaGenco source its power requirement.

Further in thermal power front, Nashik plant contributed 561 MW, Koradi-1500 MW, Khaparkheda-951 MW, Paras-450 MW, Chandrapur-2550 MW, Bhusawal-967. Through Uran Gas plant 270 MW was produced, and from Solar plants 119 MW and from Hydro about 2100 MW. The generation from Hydro in such high quantity is quite significant given the current state of crisis on water front owing to erratic rainfall during last rainy season. From Koyna alone, MahaGenco has drawn 1767 MW and other contribution on Hydro was from KDPH, Vtrna and Ghatghar. Meanwhile, power demand in State has exceeded 21,000 MW owing to excessive heat that has enveloped all the region.

The demand from Mahadiscom today was of 18275 during the night time while balance demand was from Mumbai region. Total generation in the State on Monday was nearly around 16,776 MW while demand was 21,156 MW. To tide over the shortage, Maharashtra has drawn extra power from the Central pool. Its allocation was 3927 MW but it drew 4380 MW, that is 452 MW extra.

There is meanwhile a dip in the power demand from Gujarat, it is quite marginal that of 5 MW and from Chhattisgarh that is 76 MW less than its allocation. However Goa too has drawn extra power from the pool, about 58 MW in addition to its allocation. For long MahaGenco's power generation had remained stuck at 10,000 MW and the improvement though slightest indicates improvement in plant load factor (PLF) that always was a point of criticism of the company.

Compared to private power players who scored on PLF, MahaGenco lagged behind in stepping-up the same but with super critical technology, like the one at Koradi Thermal Power Station, the state run power generation company is already making waves. The thrust on modernisation and improvement in training programmes for engineers is showing its results. Arvind Singh, President and Managing Director, Chandrakant Thotwe, Director (Operations), have effectively co-ordinated the work force to tap into its resources for effective utilisation. Thotwe congratulated all the Chief Engineers, Executive Engineers, Departmental Heads, Engineers, Technicians, and employees on this achievement.
