The suspended IPS officer, now posted at Police Headquarter (PHQ), Rajnesh Singh, on Monday noon, appeared before State Economic Offences Investigation Bureau (SEOIB) to record his statement in connection with alleged phone-tapping into multi-core Food and Civil Supplies Corporation. According to EOW insiders, IPS Rajnesh Singh clarified to the officials during the recording of his statement that whatever charges regarding the alleged phone-tapping into multi-core Food and Civil Supplies Corporation (FCSC) scam were incorrect.

“As a matter of fact, the phone-tapping were done within the framework of law and in total compliance of written official orders from the concerning department of State Government,” the insiders asserted while referring to statement of SP Singh. Insiders also averred that SP Singh, who had reached at the State Economic Offences Investigation Bureau (SEOIB) head quarters at 11.59 am, spent over 3 hours there during which his statement was recorded by a team of 5-member team of EOW headed by SP Indira Kalyan Elessela, DSP Albert Kujur and three others.

Sources also refuted the social media rumours that SP Singh put the entire blame of DG Mukesh Gupta for coercing him into illegal phone tapping. “Instead, SP Singh reiterated his previous statement that he had made earlier in the Chhattisgarh High Court following which he was given relief from the arrest. However, the court had instructed petitioner IPS Rajnesh Singh to cooperate with the SIT in its investigation and appear before the probe team whenever he is summoned,” the sources added.

It may be recalled that earlier EOW inspector R K Dubey, on whose statement the EOW had registered an FIR under 12 sections of Indian penal Code (IPC) and under Indian Telegraph Act for unlawfully intercepting messages, had moved the High Court alleging that he was pressurised by his superiors to record the statement against director general of police Mukesh Gupta and superintendent of police Rajnesh Singh.
