Quick response of police and fire tender on Tuesday morning averted an untoward incident when a fire broke out inside the kitchen of Indian Coffee House (ICH) operational in Raipur’s New Circuit House building under Civil Lines police station limits. The fire was caused due to an explosion in the deep freezer kept in the kitchen of the coffee house leading to fire. Fortunately the fire was doused by fire tenders before it could spread further.

The incident kept police and local media on tenterhook as the posh Civil Lines locality has residences of ministers as well as senior government officials. Timely arrival of fire tender and police team prevented any untoward incident and further spread of fire as the dozens of LPG cylinders were kept in the kitchen of the ICH. In a wake of the incident, ICH will remain closed for the day and likely to resume operations from May 22 after restoration works in the kitchen is completed. “A fire broke out inside the kitchen of ICH operational in New Circuit House building due to short-circuit in a deep freezer. The incident took place at 6 am when ICH staffs were busy in performing their routine task.

Acting swiftly, patrolling team of Civil Lines police station along with personnel of Dial-112 and fire tender rushed to the spot and launched an exercise to control the flames before it couldspread to other areas of the building,” Civil Lines Station House Officer (SHO) Mohsin Khan told The Hitavada. It took around half-an-hour to douse the flames, said SHO Khan, adding that no casualty was reported in the incident. SHO Khan further informed that as per the statement of ICH workers and prima-facie investigation by police, short-circuit in deep freezer inside the kitchen led to fire but investigation is underway. Estimated loss of property is yet to be ascertained.
