Prime accused in series of loots arrested

In connection with series of loots took place in the state capital and adjacent Durg district, Raipur police succeeded in nabbing a history-sheeter from Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh district followed by a gunfight. “Following a tip-off, a police team was rushed to Uttar Pradesh and nabbed Javed Ahmed (27), native of UP, and seized a country-made pistol along with two live cartridges from his possession,” said Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Prafull Kumar Thakur. Shedding more details about the arrest of looter, the ASP (City) said that while Raipur police accompanied by UP police was on the task of arresting Javed, the looter along with his five accomplices opened fire on police personnel following retaliatory action was launched. However, Ahmed managed to escape after the encounter, police succeeded in arresting the looter in another attempts. Javed is history-sheeter in Pratapgarh and around 16 criminal cases were pending against him, added ASP Thakur.
 
It may be recalled that police have already arrested Devi Prasad Basor and Manish Basor in connection with loots while manhunt is on for another accomplice Junaid Akhtar. In December 2018, the looters took jeweller Anil Soni at gunpoint and looted his bag containing gold and silver ornaments to the tune of around Rs 9 lakh on Canal Road falling in limits of New Rajendra Nagar police station.
 
Similarly, the armed looters shot at local jeweller Jashraj Soni at Vasundhara Nagar under DD Nagar police station and snatched three bags containing ornaments worth Rs 20 lakh. In connection with loots took place at separate locations in the state capital, New Rajendra Nagar and DD Nagar police registered offences under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Arms Act. While investigation in the case was underway, a case of loot at gunpoint was reported in Durg district on March this year.
