Fire in car spreads to two houses in Kolar, no casualties

Two apartments of a residential building reportedly caught fire in Kolar area after a gas kit car caught fire while refilling gas near a shopping mall on Wednesday late evening. Firefighters were called when the vehicle caught fire but till the fire tenders reached the spot, the fire engulfed houses on the first and second floor as the wind then took the fire to the houses. According to Kolar police, the incident took place around 9:30 pm at Sterling Homes Apartment located in front of Vishal Mega Mart shopping complex where a car used to train people for driving caught fire when gas was being refilled in it.
 
The car is owned by Rakesh Kumar Umraiya. The fire brigade officials said that the initial call was about fire in a four-wheeler therefore a fire brigade was pressed into service but since then the fire has evolved to two detached residential apartments located on first and second floor of the building therefore one more fire tender and 4-5 water tankers managed to douse the fire completely in more than one hour.
 
No causality has been reported in the incident, but household items kept in these two flats were gutted whereas the families present inside these apartments were taken out safely. he road has been closed off till the fire was doused completely and the other vehicles including two-wheelers and four-wheelers parked near the apartment were shifted to other place.
