CM accepts public mandate, says will review party’s performance

WHEN counting of votes began in the State, Congress leaders were ecstatic and confident that the party will do far better than last Lok Sabha election. They were hoping that the party will get at least 10 to 12 seats. However, as counting of votes progressed and Congress candidates started to lag behind by margin of thousands of votes, their zeal disappeared and anticipating defeat their party headquarters also wore a deserted look. Chief Minister Kamal Nath said that results were against hopes of Congress but he accepts and respects people’s mandate.

He said the party will assess and review election results. Victory and defeat is a part of democracy. He said that it looks that Congress failed to tell things to people in an effective manner. He congratulated PM Narendra Modi and BJP on success in Lok Sabha elections. He however mentioned that the Congress will continue to stand with the people in all situations.

Congress office in the State capital witnessed a cacophony of Congress leaders in the morning hours but as election result trends started in favour of BJP, soon everyone left and by noon, the Congress office wore a deserted look. Only Congress Media Cell Chairperson Shobha Ojha and handful of workers were sitting in their chambers in Congress office witnessing the election result trend with sullen faces. Stoic silence was witnessed at Congress office.
