The mood
   Date :24-May-2019

Kalamna market yard, where counting of votes for Lok Sabha elections was held throughout Thursday and well past midnight, was a centre of hectic activities. The officials and employees on counting duty were busy opening EVMs, recording number of votes polled by each candidate from Nagpur and Ramtek constituencies, submitting sheets to senior officers, and then the seniors verifying those and announcing the results after each round.

The cops on duty were keeping a tight vigil. Dr B K Upadhyay, Commissioner of Police, also paid a visit to the counting centre to ensure that all was well. Vikas Thakre, City President of Congress; and BJP leaders Pravin Datke, former Mayor; Ramesh Singare, Pintu Zalke, Satish Holay also came together and shared a lighter moment on the sidelines of counting.

Outside Kalamna market yard, supporters of Bharatiya Janata Party gathered at various places in the city and celebrated the party’s thumping victory in the country and the victory of Nitin Gadkari in Nagpur. In Badkas Chowk, Mahal, a giant television screen was placed to facilitate live telecast of news regarding counting of votes. These photographs taken by ‘The Hitavada’ lensman Satish Raut aptly captured the mood across the city.
