In a major come back, the Bhartiya Janata Party has been able to maintain lead in as many as 67 out of 90 Assembly segments, in the Lok Sabha Election – 2019.

It can be taken as a huge setback for the ruling Congress, which had come back to power just five months back after winning in 68 Assembly segments. It can be stated as a major comeback for the Bharatiya Janata Party within a short period of just 4-5 months after it had suffered debacle. Making a huge comeback BJP won in nine out of eleven Lok Sabha constituencies limiting the Congress to barely two seats. In this Lok Sabha elections, barring two BJP Legislators Nankiram Kanwar and Dr Krishnamurti Bandhi, all 13 Legislators have ensured huge winning margin for BJP candidates from their respective Assembly segments. BJP Legislator from Vaishali Nagar ensured highest lead of 64,000 for the BJP candidate Vijay Baghel contesting from Durg Lok Sabha. Baghel had won with highest margin of 3,91,978 votes in the state. Baghel’s win matters because Durg Lok Sabha is the home constituency of four high profile Ministers including Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel himself.

BJP candidate in Bilaspur Lok Sabha Arun Sao however won with comfortable margin of over 1.4 lakh votes but in Masturi Assembly segment which is represented by Dr Krishnamurti Bandhi, BJP couldn’t maintain lead. Similarly, Nankiram Kanwar who represents Rampur Assembly segment, couldn’t ensure lead from his segment for BJP candidate contesting from Korba Lok Sabha.

The BJP candidate Jyoti Nand Dubey lost to Jyotsna Charandas Mahant (Congress) by a margin of 26,349 votes in a keen contest. In Rampur, Congress maintained a lead of 20,000 votes. In the capital, the Congress candidate Pramod Dubey suffered huge defeat from Raipur (Rural) Assembly segment represented by Congress leader Satyanarayan Sharma. In this segment BJP maintained a lead of 63,000 votes. Ministers including Kawasi Lakhma, Anila Bhedia and Umesh Patel could manage lead in their respective segments for Congress candidates. Accordingly Congress candidate from Bastar Lok Sabha Deepak Baij got lead from Lakhma’s constituency while Umesh Patel ensured lead for Laljit Singh Rathia and Anila Bhedia ensured lead for Biresh Thakur from their respective segments but only DeepaK Baij won.

Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel along with senior Ministers including T S Singhdeo, Tamradhawaj Sahu, Ravindra Choubey, Mohammed Akbar, Dr Premsai Singh, Jaisingh Agrawal, Guru Rudra Kumar and Dr Shivkumar Daharia couldn’t manage leads for their party candidates from their respective Assembly segments.
