Journalists are the integral part of society. They are instrumental in building social consciousness. Therefore, while writing, reporting, editing and publishing any event or while covering any incident on electronic media, journalists should maintain ethical standards, said Sar Saha Karyawah of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Manmohan Vaidya on Saturday. Vaidya was addressing as the chief guest of Devarshi Narad Jayanti Journalist Awards distribution function organised by Vishwa Samvad Kendra, Vidabha Prant at Sai Sabhagruha, Shankar Nagar. Prof Rajnish Kumar Shukla, Vice-Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi International Hindi University, Wardha, presided over the function.

Sudhir Pathak, President of Vishwa Samvad Kendra; Atul Pingale, convenor of Vishwa Samvad Kendra and Anil Sambre also shared dais. Expressing a concern over present day journalism, Vaidya stated, now a days a person working in the field of journalism is seen detached from society. There is a large gap found what journalists are presenting and what is the reality. Journalists should feel more connected with the society. They should understand the social mind well. They must work with a sense of belongingness and sense of responsibility.

To achieve these qualities one should develop divinity within, he added. Vaidya took a brief review of the words coined by media while targeting Hindu community. The anti-social forces are working constantly to spoil unity, integrity and cohesiveness in the society. Unfortunately, people from media without knowing their hidden agenda are using their vocabulary and damaging the society. Vaidya asked media to avoid jargon of words like ‘Kattar Hindu,’ ‘Secular,’ ‘Hindutva Vadi Sanghatan,’ ‘Rashtrawad’ etc while portraying the picture of RSS. Prof Rajanish Kumar Shukla said the social media has posed lot of challenges before media. These are real time challenges and value time challenges.

Journalists are required to follow moral values, ethical standards and social responsibility to face these challenges, he added. Earlier, Anant Kolamkar of Dainik Sakal (Print Media); Kumar Tale of Sahara Samay (Electronic Media), Col Abhay Patwardhan (columnist) were honoured with Devarshi Narad Patrakar Sanman Puraskar for 2019 and senior journalists Kamlakar Dharap and Rajabhau Pophali with ‘Life Time Achievement’ awards.
