SADAR Police on Saturday arrested a servant of Ashish Ranjit Deshmukh, former MLA, for stealing diamond jewellery and gold ornaments worth Rs 37.25 lakh from his ‘Barkat’ bungalow, opposite District Collectorate in Civil Lines. Quick action by the police resulted in recovery of the stolen diamond-studded jewellery and gold ornaments from the accused servant. Identified as Sagar Prakash Bawne (22), the accused is a resident of Dasra Road, near Annabhau Samaj Mandir. Ayushi (43), wife of Ashish Deshmukh, had kept the jewellery in one of the drawers of her dressing room.

When Ayushi opened the drawer, she was shocked to find the diamond jewellery and gold ornaments collectively worth Rs 37.25 lakh missing. She checked the entire bedroom but could not find the ornaments. After enquiring with the servants about the ornaments, she called the police. Staff from Sadar Police Station visited Ayushi’s bungalow and started investigation. Cops called all the 6 servants and drivers for questioning.
