A 32-year-old woman was charred to death when a fire broke out in a hut located in Raipur’s Telghaninaka locality falling in limits of Ganj police station on Saturday. While two children, watching TV in other room of the hut, were reported to be rescued safely. The deceased woman has been identified as Suniti Bai Sahu (32), was hailing from Bemetara, police said.

According to police sources, Suniti along with her husband Kirit Ram Sahu and three children was residing in a hut constructed on small portion of a plot owned by a steel company and located at Telghaninaka under Ganj police limits. Suniti and his husband were working as caretaker of the plot. “In preliminary police investigation, it was learnt by investigators that Suniti’s 11-year-old daughter and nephew were busy in watching TV when the tragic incident took place in another room of the house. After hearing the scream of Suniti, her daughter and nephew rushed to the room found the woman enveloped by inferno following which they alerted people,” said police sources.

Police sources further informed that after being informed about the incident, patrolling team from Ganj police station and fire tender rushed to the spot and the fire was controlled within 15 minutes. Firefighter along with police patrolling team entered inside the hut after fire was doused and saw Suniti’s dead body lying on the floor. Prima-facie it seems that fire in the room may broke out due to earthen lamp lighted while investigation is on to ascertain the exact cause of fire. Police has sent the body for autopsy, added police.
