Shaken-up in the aftermath of horrific fire at a coaching centre in Surat, Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) officials ran a whirlwind inspection of the safety features of the buildings housing coaching centres. Civic authorities checked the centres for exit/entry route, fire fighting system, parking and drinking water arrangements. While some of the coaching centre operators were let off with advice and warning, some centres were also served notices.

Zone-7 staff initiated the inspection, starting with a coaching centre at Tatyapara, where the staircase was found extremely narrow. Coaching centre operator told the officials that there is another staircase on other side of the building, but it is kept closed. Officials warned them to open the extra staircase or be ready to get fined. Another coaching centre at Tatyapara, though, had a fire-fighting system, but it was found out of order. Officials asked the proprietor to get it fixed.

Thereafter, the officials scrutinized the coaching centres at Samta Colony. Zone-4 Zone Commissioner Chandan Sharma stated they checked the fire-fighting system as well as the electrical wiring and switch boards at the centres. Zone-5 Commissioner Arun Dhruw found arrangements satisfactory at coaching centres. There were some shortcomings, which were asked to be fixed. Zone-8 Commissioner Praveen Singh Gehtlot told besides the coaching centres, they also inspected the central library as a precaution. RMC Commissioner Shiv Anant Tayal stated that many coaching centres were found closed on Sunday. All of them will be scrutinised on Monday.
