Residents complaining of poor water supply through tankers in Wadi area

The water crisis is Wadi area is still going on while Wadi Municipal Council (WMC) is supplying water through tankers. Demand of water tankers has also given rise of black-marketing in the region. The drivers and owners of such tankers are allegedly providing water on double the rate. After getting many complaints from residents, the administration has installed GPS in eight tankers to track them while supplying. About 90 to 100 tankers are deployed to supply water in different wards under Wadi. With the help of the GPS, administration can track the movement of the vehicle and can take action also.

The tankers can be tracked from Vena Dam to the destination and Chief Officer Rajesh Bhagat and water supply engineer Avi Bhagat will take care of the data. Asma Water Suppliers have been given the contract to supply water in different wards of Wadi Municipal Council. Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran (MJP) has started supplying 10 MLD water daily to Ordnance Factory Ambajhari Estate (OFAJ) and Wadi Municipal Council from Ambazari lake. Earlier, MJP used to supply 22 MLD daily from Vena Dam to OFAJ and Wadi area. However, as the dam has gone dry, it is supplying only 10 MLD.

Keeping the water scarcity in mind, WMC has started water supply through tankers. Even then, colonies like Navneet Nagar, Ambedkar Nagar, Nagalwadi, Wardhamna, Dawlameti and Tekdi Wadi are still not getting water. The residents are preferring to store water that they are getting after every four days. The crisis also increased the illegal water pumping. Ambazari lake contains C-Grade water which require treatment before use.

Hence, MJP is transporting the water through under ground pipeline to Vena Dam to treatment. Currently, MJP is supplying the water to 7,000 residents of OFAJ Estate and Wadi area. Along with OFAJ and Wadi, Vena Dam also supply water to Kalmeshwar MIDC, Hingna MIDC, Digdo and Nildo Gram Panchayats. However, the other parts are also facing the water crisis. The water shortage raised in the beginning of the winter last year and it is still on as monsoon is approaching.
