Over 1,200 candidates in Bhilai and around 3,000 from all over Chhattisgarh tested their luck at JEE Advanced, which held online second time on Monday. These students felt the paper, especially of Physics as well as Mathematics section, was tougher than last year. Majority of the appeared students found the paper of Chemistry easy and not difficult to solve as like of other two sections. The examination was held at Rungta Group of Colleges and Parthvi College of Engineering in steel city. The examination was held in two sessions, with paper-I held from 9 am to 12 noon while paper-II was held from 2 to 5 pm. This year due to online format, students could not take the question paper and the copy of their responses home. No errors in the questions have been reported from state so far.

The paper-I had three parts-physics, chemistry and mathematics. In section one, there were 6 questions worth four marks for all correct options and three marks if three correct options are chosen. There were no negative marks if questions go unanswered. In the second section, there were 8 ‘Integer Type’ questions and answers ranged from 0 to 9. Three marks will be awarded for the correct response and zero marks in all cases. In section three, three marks will be given only for the correct answer and minus one in all other cases. The paper had 54 questions in total, but marks were reduced from 183 last year to 180 this year, according to experts of the examination in steel city. Students said the overall level of paper was moderate, but not easy. Some students have reported that chemistry was easy and physics relatively difficult.

Mathematics was reportedly moderately difficult and also time consuming. Paper-II had 54 questions too worth 180 marks. Section one of the paper had six questions with four options, in which one or more than one options were correct. Marking scheme in this section was plus 4 in case all options are correct, plus 1 for each correct response, 0 marks for no response and minus 2 in all other cases. Maximum marks for this section was 24. Overall, students felt mathematics section was difficult compared to physics and chemistry and compared to Paper-1, students reported Paper-II was relatively tough. Equal weight age was given to Class XI as well as Class XII, said Jagdish Tulsiyani, faculty of one top coaching chain of JEE Advanced. ‘We found the questions of mathematics very time consuming and as a result could not attempt all questions. The chemistry was easiest among three subjects in both sections and we have attempted all questions’ told Rishi, Pooja and Priya, candidates who appeared for JEE Advanced on Monday.
