Complete all ongoing water supply projects till May 30: Bawankule

Guardian Minister instructs officials to implement Action Plan to meet drought situation  
 
Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule instructed all departments to complete ongoing water supply projects before May 30. Keeping the poor water situation in mind, State Government has prepared an Action plan to meet drought situation in Nagpur district. The Action Plan is applicable for 1,284 villages of Nagpur district and under this plan construction of new reservoirs, maintenance of pipelines, deepening of wells and removal of silt will take place.
 
Bawankule addressed a meeting to check water situation in the district on Monday. The irrigation project dams in the district have only 5.40 per cent water remaining. City is getting water supply from the dead stock of Totladoh dam, hence people should use water carefully to cater the demand till the start of monsoon, said Bawankule during the meeting. He also instructed to take stock of illegal water supply and tap connection in the city to reduce the misuse of water from remaining stock.
 
Local administration also have to take steps against commercial water supply on daily basis. NMC supply 710 MCM water daily in the city hence proper planning is needed to conserve water. Total 5,254 handpumps are erected in the jurisdiction of NMC. Similarly, out of 755 wells 261 require maintenance and deepening.
 
Proper implementation of the Action Plan is the responsibility of district collector, Tahasildar, officials of water supply department and Block Development Officers (BDO). Hence, every individual should play their role for conservation of water in the district, said Bawankule during the meeting.
