DM for action against people found smoking at prohibited places

District Magistrate Dr Basavaraju S on Tuesday said that strict action would be taken against those smoking in the public place, government offices, schools and college premises. The DM directed the administration team for regular inspection of these places.
 
The DM stated this in the meeting of the District Tobacco Control Coordination Committee at the Collectorate on Tuesday. MLA Kuldeep Juneja was also present in the meeting. Highlighting the ill effects of smoking during the meeting, the DM said that public places, government offices, schools and college premises are prohibited areas as far as smoking is concerned.
 
Such places should always be under the vigil of the administration team constituted for the purpose and strict action should be taken against offenders, the DM said. It is punishable offence to sell tobacco products to minors as per defined laws, said the DM, adding it is mandatory to put display board making the shopkeepers and people aware. The main entrance of any educational institution should have a display board highlighting provisions of the law made for preventing smoking, the DM said. The role of public is also crucial in effective implementation of the law, he said. Also present in the meeting were Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr K R Sonwani and District Education Officer G R Chandrakar.
