Drug peddler held, cannabis worth Rs 2 lakh recovered

Crime branch police have arrested a 20-year-old youth from Bhopal Railway Station and recovered 18 kg of cannabis worth Rs 2 lakh from his possession on Monday. According to ASP (Crime), Nischal Jhariya, acting on a tip-off, a youth who used to transport drugs illegally and would travel in trains from southern states and would carry drugs to Vidisha was trapped near Kiran lodge near Bhopal Railway Station and when he was searched, cannabis weighing 18 kg worth Rs 2 lakh was recovered from his possession. The accused was identified as Deepak Kewat, 20, son of Gajraj Kewat, a native of Kammu Khedi village in Vidisha district.
 
After the preliminary investigation, the police have registered a case under Section 8/20 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. In the initial investigation, when the youth was nabbed, he tried to misguide police saying that he works as labourer here and came to railway station to catch a train to reach Vidisha where he was going to meet his parents. However, a bag was found which he was hanging on his shoulder and when checked inside the bag, cannabis was recovered from it. The market value of drugs seized was worth Rs 2 lakh. The victim revealed that he works in Vidisha and would bring drugs from Visakhapatnam and would sell in remote villages and areas of Vidisha at massive price and would make fast money.
 
He would buy cannabis at Rs 3,000 per kg and would sell in those areas of Vidisha which were remote and villages and would fetch Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 per kg. Police have started investigation and would search the nexus behind the drug trafficking. His involvement in drug peddling would be investigated. He had not provided details of his accomplices who were involved in the drug peddling racket. During the investigation, police found that, Deepak had been booked for murder by Kotwali police of Vidisha district in the year 2018.
