In a horrifying incident, a 23-year-old youth strangled to death a 40-year-old woman with whom he had an illicit relationship for three years. After killing the woman, the youth hanged the body from a tree to create a scene of suicide. But he changed his mind and buried the body in a nullah after his friends suggested him to destroy the evidence by burying the body.

The deceased was identified as Urmila Gajanan Dharne, a resident of Nand village while the accused have been identified as Roshan Babaji Devke (23), a resident of Bhivapur; Sachin Amrut Dharat (30) and Sunil Arujun Dhone (26), both residents of Nand village. According to police, Roshan and Urmila were in illicit relationship and started living together for past three years. As Roshan slowly emotionally detached from Urmila, he decided to eliminate her.

He strangled her to death on May 22 when she was sleeping. He later took the body to bushes and hanged the body from a tree in an attempt to create a scene of a suicide. When he narrated the incident to his friends Sachin and Sunil while consuming liquor, the youths visited the spot. They reportedly told him to bury the body in the nullah so that police could not trace her. Roshan then dug a shallow pit and buried the body. The crime came to the fore when Urmila’s relatives sensed her absence in the village. They alerted the police and suspected role of Roshan.

The cops took Roshan in custody and grilled him during interrogation. He spilled the beans and revealed the crime. The police then dug out the semi-decomposed body and sent it for post-mortem. The accused have been booked under Sections 302 and 201 of Indian Penal Code. Further investigation is on.
