‘Pitching is a very important skill for start-up’

HIGHLIGHTING on how to pitch a perfect business idea to potential investors, the guest faculty Rajeev Aggarwal, Retd Senior Vice-President, Global Strategy and Development, SNCL, Canada said, “Pitching is a very important skill for any start-up. Pitching a business idea to an investor is one of the most difficult challenges in an entrepreneur’s life. It does not matter how innovative or profitable one’s business idea may be, if it cannot attract investors to invest in the startup. While pitching an idea, an entrepreneur needs to demonstrate how his product will add value to the buyer and provide good returns on the invested amount. Successfully attracting capital requires putting together an effective pitch that will convince investors to back you up.”
Aggarwal was speaking at the workshop ‘Shepreneurs Pitch Fest’ at Chitnavis Centre, Civil Lines on Wednesday. The event was organised by TiE Nagpur and AIRSWEEE. Apart from this, the corporate honcho Aggarwal said, “Preparing for pitch is very important. Within a short span of time you have to give your speech and catch their attention for success”.
While preparing a powerful pitch, one should give a list of key values of the product and conduct brainstorming session and put up unique selling preposition (UPS) of the product, connect value to needs, draft multiple pitches and shortlist a few. Apart from this, he said that entrepreneur should speak clearly and be audible. He should avoid complex words and keep the speech as simple as possible, he added. As part of the workshop, six tables with one mentor and five mentees were given 30 minutes to prepare a pitch. After this, they were given 40 seconds to give their pitch.
The pitches were evaluated by the delegates. The chief guest for the function Vijay Phanshikar, Editor, The Hitavada inaugurated the workshop. The guest of honour was Sheetal Vaikkath, Proprietor and Director, Saroj Bakery. Rita Aggarwal, TiE Charter Member and AIRSWEEE Director, India introduced the guests.
