A fire broke out as a result of short circuit on the second floor of a shopping complex located at Hoshangabad Road under Misrod police station on Wednesday evening. The visitors in Aashima Mall were taken aback when they heard fire sirens blowing on all the floors and were then asked to evacuate and the entry inside the mall was confined.

Only firefighters were allowed to enter inside to douse the fire and the mall management stopped entry of media-persons reached the spot from making coverage of fire incident. Smoke engulfed the Cinepolis movie theatre located at 3rd floor inside Aashima Mall, after the fire broke out at a fitness centre located on 2nd floor there due to short circuit at around 05:30 pm. Very soon the entire mall was enveloped inside the smoke and visitors were evacuated. According to fireman R S Pawar, the fire had broken out and the visitors inside were unaware of it until smoke started billowing out and entered the theatre, and after that mall management asked them to run out of there.

Very soon the entire mall was covered with smoke and teams of fire department had reached there. As many as ten teams of fire department including fire tenders, tankers and foam tenders were pressed into the relief work. These teams had to battle flames for an hour. Meanwhile, panic was triggered inside the mall and not only the theatres but the restaurant owners on the floor were also asked to shut their shops and run out of the area. Pawar said the fire had broken out allegedly after some visitor threw some lit stuff on the waste. The waste was kept on the stairs that link the exit of Audi-7 of the theatre to the restaurants. He, however, failed to inform about the loss in the fire.

Hitendra Kansoriya, mall manager, said that the visitors were evacuated as per the precautionary measure and that we had already doused flames using our hydrant. We had two fire men who battled flames before he teams of fire department arrived. He also informed that the loss was nil as it was only waste that was gutted in the fire. He also said that the visitors who were inside the theatre will be entertained if they want to watch the movie they were watching when the fire broke out and they had to leave it. Located in a thickly populated area, the shopping mall houses restaurants, two dozen shops, fitness centre, movie theatre and offices of many companies.
