Chhattisgarh government would soon establish a Regulatory Commission to provide the parents under burden of arbitrariness of private schools across the state with much-needed relief. “Unlike previous governments, we are determined to reduce the burden of the parents sending their children to private schools for study.

We would soon come up with a Fee Regulatory Commission to bring the fee structure and other affairs of the private schools, causing hardship for parents, under the purview of the commission,” said School Education Minister Dr Premsai Singh Tekam while replying to a question asked by The Hitavada Correspondent on Wednesday regarding skyrocketing fees in the schools. When asked about the time limit, the minister said that a proposal would be put before the Cabinet first. “I can assure you this government led by Chief Minister Bhupesh Bagehl would constitute a Commission to monitor the activities of private schools,” replied Dr Tekam.

The minister also said that action would be taken against the schools prescribing books of private publishers, asking students to buy it from a particular shop. The State Government has taken several pro-active measures for the improvement of quality of education in the government school and therefore it has introduced centralised evaluation and assessment system. A state-level evaluation was done in which performance of 28,93,738 students across the state (Class 1 to 8) was assessed. The state government has planned to introduce a tough system of Test starting from class VI, so that quality of education can be improved.

The state government has fixed accountability under Shala Sankul Yojana to improve quality of education in government schools such as a higher secondary school principal will be responsible for the quality education starting from Anganwadi centres to higher secondary schools coming under his jurisdiction.
